  1. I want to like Sony Walkman players, having owned an old A818 back in the day and enjoyed it, but I was reading some reviews of the NWZ-A17, and I was horrified that file based playlists (m3u) are still poorly supported, taking literally 10 seconds to load, and creating playlists with files across internal and external storage is a pain. Even my Sansa Clip could do these tasks with no problems!!

    1. Indeed, playlists are poorly handled on the A series. I gave up on them and started using the build in bookmark function lately myself but it is not a good replacement.

  2. Which are the diferences with the A15 series?
I only see Digital Noise cancelling.

    1. Apart from noise cancellation and addition of headphones in the box, there is also more colour options, and 64GB in Europe now.

  3. I'm also wondering if the output power is improved over the last year model. Especially if the power through Bluetooth is stronger - I've noticed that Sony A15 plays a lil bit quiter through BT than current smartphones on the arket - that's a bit annoying for me as I listen through my BT speaker (JBL Flip3/Xtreme) pretty often and it's audibly quiter than from let's say HTC One, Xperia Z3 Compact.

    1. Have you successful connected a15 with a jbl xtreme? Because I can't. And after asking Sony support Germany, they advised I should connect them through cable.

  4. Sucks that it still uses sony's proprietary charging cable (based on picture)..

  5. I think these could sell well in the $200 range, but $300 seems like a lot. The build quality looks too chintzy for that high of price.

  11. I have my a15 for a week and so far I was completely satisfied with its superior sound. But yesterday I bought a jbl extreme and the Walkman just won't connect to it. The message "Cancelling connection" and "the connection was cancelled because of an error" appear. Can anyone advice? And yes, I've tried reset. Both devices use latest updates.

    1. Does the walkman connect fine with any other devices? what about the speaker does it connect to other devices fine?

    2. Thanks for your reply.
Yes it does. I've successfully connected it with every other device I have, including a jbl flip 3 and a flip GO.
Aalso, the jbl xtreme successfully connects with two different iPhones.
I came in touch with Sony support of Germany. They replied to me that I should connect the Walkman to the jbl xtreme through a 3,5 mm cable. They also sent me a link to a page on their site which shows all the compatible devices for the Walkman. But in this page, only Sony products are shown. Clearly, Sony has a very competitive way of building their products as well as promoting them.
Choosing not to describe how utterly humorous and surreal the whole experience was for me, I asked Sony support if they thought it would be possible for the Walkman to support xtreme with a future upgrade. They replied they have no such information about the matter at the time.
It is very unfortunate that it is impossible for me to get two of the, perhaps top in their respective categories products to work with each other. I can only imagine that the result would be truly impressive and satisfying. But in the end, why would a customer who has spent €480 have the right to be satisfied?

  12. Odd it should connect with most if not all devices, it is a bluetooth connection after all. Doesn't Sony germany still have sony stores like in Poland? Can always take the jbl xtreme to the store and see if it connects to the walkman on display there?

    1. I know, right? After all, why are they making all these Bluetooth protocols in the first place?
As for the shops, I haven't made any search to be honest. Will do though.
Anyway, if I have any updates I will post again here. Otherwise, you'll know I've given up the Sony quest.
Thanks again for your time and help!

  13. Hi! The ear phone mdr nc750 is compatible with nwz a17?

    1. Yes they will work as normal headphones but without the noise cancellation feature because the non japanese A10 did not come with built in NC. If you wish to have NC on the A10, the best option is the MDR-EX750NA headphones which have NC built into the headset with a battery pack. If you don't need noise cancellation, the other option is the MDR-EX750AP headphones.

Or finally buy a used NWZ-A20 walkman with the NC750 headphones for NC.

    2. For now, I'll wait the price of A20 fall down a little more...
Thank you for your attention and help!
      Congratulations for the blog.
